My name is Wai Wai Kyaw. I'm from Momeik Northern Shan state (Myanmar Burma) and I moved to Yangon (the commercial capital of Myanmar) in 2009. My goal was to develop my own small business in Yangon and help my family and village people to get good jobs and to experience city life.
In 2011 the first business I started in Yangon was a guest house and my guests were mostly foreign visitors . At that time I used to cook family style dinners for a guests who were staying at our place. I always got good feedback for the food and they often suggested to me: "Wai Wai you should open a restaurant."
So I started by opening a small garden restaurant in 2013 because I love cooking and serving my food to other people. Also I was proud to promote our traditional Shan food to foreign visitors.
I learnt to cook from my grandmother when I was a little girl. My grandmother was a very good cook and the dishes she cooked were very tasty and amazing. I felt like she had magic hands.
Unfortunately in 2021 our country was taken over by the military after a coup. After that our country experienced so many problems. That is why in 2023 September we finally decided that following my husband was the only choice left. That also meant me and the children would be reunited with their father.
Whilst I am here in Belgium, I seriously would like to continue with my passion for cooking and food in general. A catering service of Myanmar / Shan cuisine would be my goal. Therefore I decided to start to realize my dream in Europe, more specifically Belgium.
Wai Wai's Noodles place is still open in Yangon. My younger sister's family continues to operate it. My sister has worked with me in the kitchen for 7 years and is an experienced chef. I can assure you that her work is very good. Please continue to support Wai Wai Noodles place in Yangon, Myanmar.
Kind regards
Wai Wai
